Official StoreChainsaw Sharpener File Kit — 8-Piece Manual Saw Chain Sharpening Set

Dull chain was eating up my time and creating kickback hazard. Went through the kit once, read the guide, and my saw now cuts like it did new. Beats the $80 professional sharpenings.
2 weeks agoThe angle guide is the key. I was doing it wrong before this kit. Consistent 35-degree strokes and the blade goes back to being sharp.
3 weeks agoGot all three file sizes, so I don't have to figure out which one fits my chain. Pouch keeps them from rattling around in my truck.
4 weeks agoManual sharpening takes patience and the first time took me 30 minutes. Second time 15 minutes. Third time I could do it eyes closed. Kit is solid, just steep learning curve.
5 weeks agoForestry work means I sharpen my saw three times a month. This kit pays for itself versus going to the shop. Canvas pouch survives the weather.
3 weeks agoHomeowner with two saws. Don't use them enough to justify a commercial sharpener. This kit sits in the garage and I pull it out when I need it.
6 weeks agoSix-inch flat file for rakers is something I didn't know I needed. Turns out bad rakers are half my sharpness problem.
2 weeks agoGood introduction to hand-sharpening. I watch videos before each sharpening session still, but the kit is reliable and the guides help a lot.
7 weeks agoSharpen by hand and keep your chain geometry true
8-piece kit with all three file sizes, guides and a pouch.
Manual filing maintains geometry better than grinding and costs a fraction of professional sharpening.
A dull chainsaw chain increases equipment kickback risk because the engine works harder and the operator applies more force to compensate. Keeping your chain sharp means the saw cuts with less strain, safer operation and faster work.
This kit contains three round files in 5/32", 3/16" and 7/32-inch sizes — match your chain pitch, stroke the file outward from inside the tooth, and the cutter edges return to uniform geometry. No friction-induced overheating. No over-grinding.
Most people sharpen wrong because the filing angle drifts. This kit includes a filing angle guide with stamped alignment markings for 30° and 35° — the standard angles for chainsaw cutters. Clip it on, position the file, and every stroke lands at the right angle.
Consistent angle means uniform cutter height and sharpness — one chain that cuts straight instead of pulling to one side.
The 6-inch flat file lowers and levels the rakers — the depth limiters that sit just ahead of each cutter tooth. When rakers are too high, the cutter can't bite and the chain seems dull even when it's sharp. This kit includes a dedicated depth gauge tool to measure and set the right height.
Rakers neglected = half your sharpness problem. This kit addresses it.
The ergonomic hardwood handle fits any file in the kit — one handle, multiple sharpening jobs. Finished wood is smooth in the hand and built to survive repeated use.
Roll-up canvas pouch keeps all eight pieces organized during transit or storage. Dedicated slots prevent files from clanging together and getting dulled. Toss it in your truck bed or garage and grab it whenever you need it.
1. Match the file size
Identify your chain pitch and select the corresponding round file (5/32", 3/16" or 7/32-inch).
2. Attach the angle guide and file
Clamp the guide onto the chain, position the file at the marked angle (30° or 35°), and stroke outward from inside the tooth.
3. Lower the rakers and test
Use the flat file and depth gauge tool to set raker heights to spec, then test on a log — sharp chain cuts without pushing.
Check your chain pitch — the manufacturer label will say 0.325", .404", etc. The kit includes all three standard sizes (5/32", 3/16", 7/32-inch) so you don't have to guess.
The kit includes a filing angle guide with stamped markings — line up your file with the guide and stroke consistently. After the second or third sharpening, you'll develop the feel.
IMPORTANT: This kit works ONLY on chainsaw bars with TWO locator guide holes (14", 16", 18" or 20" bars). It is NOT compatible with single-hole bars or mini cordless pruning saws.
Round files are specific to chain pitch, so they are chainsaw-only. The flat file can work on hand saws or other saws if needed.
Depends on wood type and usage. Hardwood dulls faster than softwood. When the saw stops pulling itself into the wood, it's time to sharpen.
Raker (depth gauge) height is half the sharpness problem. This tool ensures your rakers are set to manufacturer spec so the cutter can bite at the right depth.
